Stay 30s to unlock your cold-wallet risk score

COLDSHIELD

Your cold wallet is offline. Your seed is not.

Built for African hardware-wallet holders — stop seed phishing, fake firmware, and address poisoning before they empty your vault.

Africa · cold storage reality

Offline does not mean untouchable

Most losses start with a photo of a seed, a “support” Telegram, or a lookalike receive address — not a broken Ledger.

01

Seed photo & cloud sync

A screenshot in WhatsApp, Google Photos, or a laptop backup is enough. Attackers buy access — they never need your device.

02

Fake “Ledger / Trezor support”

DM or email asks you to “verify” the seed on a website. Real vendors never ask. One paste and the vault is gone.

03

Address poisoning

Tiny dust transfers from lookalike addresses land in your history. You copy the wrong one next time you send.

Safety: COLDSHIELD will never request your seed phrase. Anyone who does is a thief.

Hardening playbook

Five rules that keep cold storage cold

Follow these in order. Each step closes a door attackers already use across Africa’s crypto corridors.

  1. 1

    Seed stays offline — forever

Stamp metal. No phone photos. No laptop notes. No “temporary” cloud backup.

  2. 2

    Buy hardware from sealed retail

Prefer manufacturer or authorized partners. Refuse “pre-set up” devices sold second-hand.

  3. 3

    Verify every receive address on-device

Screen and phone must match. If they differ, abort — malware may be spoofing your desktop app.

  4. 4

Separate daily hot from vault cold

Trading balance on mobile; savings on cold. Never connect the vault device to random USB hubs.

  5. 5

    Practice a recovery drill once

Restore to a spare device with a test amount. Confirm you can recover before you need to.

Multisig recovery & defense

One stolen seed should not empty the vault

Multisig splits spending power across keys in different places. Even if phishing or a photo leak hits one key, attackers still need the others.

01

After a seed leak

If only one of three keys is compromised, funds stay locked until you rotate to a fresh vault with the remaining keys.

02

Before the next send

Every spend needs multiple approvals — a fake “support” page that steals one device still cannot move the stack alone.

03

Family & travel

Keys can live in different cities (Lagos / Nairobi / abroad) so theft, fire, or border seizure of one device is survivable.

Choose a scheme that fits you

Most used for African holders

2-of-3 geographic multisig

Three keys in three locations. Any two can spend. One lost or stolen key is recoverable; two lost keys = locked funds — so store locations carefully.

  1. Key A on your primary hardware wallet (home safe).
  2. Key B on a second sealed device kept in another city or with a trusted person.
  3. Key C as a metal backup in a bank box / separate property — never photographed.
  4. If Key A is phished: freeze sends, use B+C to move to a new 2-of-3, retire the old vault.

Best when you travel between hubs (e.g. Lagos ↔ Accra ↔ London) or keep family abroad.
